223 Staying at the Tropicana

Sometimes people think the Vegas Strip hotels are only MGM or Caesars related and overlook some of the smaller, more classy and historic hotels. Today’s podcast we talk about the time Debbie and I spent a night at the Tropicana then I had an opportunity to interview their VP of Leisure Sales about working at such a classic Vegas property.

Tropicana has always been known as “The Tiffany of the Strip” Opened in 1957 and was one of the most Mobbed up casinos of the time.  Several scenes depicted in the movie “Casino” actually took place at the Trop.

Donna Marcou – VP Leisure Sales

She is original from my neck of the woods, La Crosse Wisconsin.   She worked her way westward, helped with the opening of the new Aladdin on the Vegas Strip before moving over to help rechristened the Tropicana after the new owners pumped over $200 million into renovations.

We talk about the new old Tropicana and its place on the Strip.  It is a boutique hotel, easy to find and great location.

The Las Vegas Tropicana is all new inside. All redone in the modern “South Beach” vibe. This is not the Tropicana of 5 years ago or even 20 years. It’s beautiful inside and out with a very friendly and attentive staff and a variety of amenities.
