Mark & Debbie. Date Night! A Very Terry Christmas w/ Terry Fator

When you call Las Vegas home, you gotta get out and play tourist once in a while. And that’s what Miss Debbie and I did last week.  We went off to see Terry Fator’s “A Very Terry Christmas” show at the Mirage.

This makes the third time I got to see the 2007 America’s Got Talent winner perform in the theater named after him. Well, him, his seven-piece orchestra, his (new) wife Angie, and his menagerie of puppets…  Still, if you have seen Terry before, you will enjoy seeing him in this show and if you never have seen Terry Fator perform, this show will make you wonder why you waited so long to catch his act.

In a nutshell, Terry never disappoints and even gets better with age!

The Show

Once Terry takes the stage he will tell you right up front, this is not a “holiday” show, this is a CHRISTMAS show. There is a reason for the season.  And that’s basically the storyline to the show.  He is having a Christmas gathering as he searches for the meaning of the night as well as the man of the night, Santa Claus… Or was it, Willy Clause??

What’s different in a Terry Fator show is that it’s mostly just him and his puppets.  No big “Vegas” style productions.  There’s Him, his puppets,  his wife/stagehand Angie, and his talented and tight seven-piece band. That’s it.  Ok, need to add DJ Ben Harris.  He is the preshow entertainment as well as playing the elf character during the show.

Terry is, of course, famous for his puppets and ventriloquism, however, he opens the show by showing us that he is also a very accomplished singer who belts out a couple of tunes on his own. The characters each have their own segment on stage, alone with Terry as to make it a more personable experience and even a little more believable as they seem to come to life under his control.

On the night we went, He had David Bowie and Bing Crosby sing a portion fo their famous duet “Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy”.  Micheal Jackson sang a duet with Sir Paul McCartneyJustin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne stopped by as well.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Terry Fator show without a few songs from Miss Vickie, Maynard Thompkins, the world’s greatest Elvis impersonator who doesn’t know any Elvis songs.   We heard songs by Ethel Merman, Judy Garland, Cher.  Even Santa Trump makes an appearance.

The voices are amazing and what also makes this such an entertaining show is the banter between Terry and the characters. Its a faced paced dialog, jokes and one-liners.  His show is not really for kids, it is entertaining and what is adult material will fly over the heads of the kids as they come fast before breaking into another song.

The show ends as it always does with the song that sealed the deal for Terry all those nights ago.  Him and his best friend, Winston the impersonating turtle.  Winston does his Kermit the frog as Terry nails it doing legendary Louie Armstrong as they sing “What a Wonderful World” to close out the perfect date night.
