Railroad Tunnels to Temporarily Close

Historic Hoover Dam Railroad Tunnels

One of the attractions for tourists as well as locals at Lake Mead is the historic railroad tunnels.  These old tunnels will be closed part-time for the next few months so the National Park Services can patch and improve the surfaces of these trails.  Also closing part time for maintenance will be 17 miles of the River Mountain Loop Trail.

Trails will be closed Mondays through Thursdays until Nov. 17. The trails will be open to the public from 5 p.m. Thursday until nightfall Sunday throughout the construction project and work will begin on Tuesday, October 11.

The Historic Railroad Trail follows the old rail route between Boulder City and Hoover Dam.  Supply trains ran this route from 1931 to 1961. The 3.7-mile trail crosses through five old railroad tunnels and offers walkers and bikers panoramic views of Lake Mead and the Boulder Beach area.
