Boxing is Back

Las Vegas is known for world class entertainment.  That goes for sports entertainment as well as music.  Primarily boxing.  Some of the biggest fights in boxing have happened here.

I remember growing up and watching ABC Sports, Howard Cosell and Mohamed Ali under the lights, in the open desert air next to Caesars Palace.  Those days are long gone.  Now we have high class, large arenas’ for it.

This weekend it was a 17-year reunion between Bernard Hopkins scoring against Roy Jones Jr. at Mandalay Bay.  Their last encounter in 1993 had Jones thumping Hopkins.

Granted, this was light heavy weight match.  So the place was full, but not filled with fans.  Get a named card, make it a Heavy Weight match and you have the who’s who of the business and music world flying into Vegas.

That may be next week when fan favorites Evander Holyfield vs Francois Botha next weekend, Saturday, April 10th, at Thomas & Mack.  Or Floyd Mayweather vs Sugar Shane Mosley, Saturday, May 1st, at the MGM Grand.  Than we see the big money guys in town. The big private jets, the expensive hookers and the low rollers hoping to score a seat at the fight of the year.

Yes, Vegas is the land of Entertainment!!
